Resume objectives ("Seeking a challenging role where I can grow...") are a relic of the 1990s. Modern recruiters spend an average of 7 seconds scanning a resume, and they want to know what you can do for them — not what you want from them. A well-written professional summary, by contrast, leads with your biggest achievement and immediately signals your value. In this article, we explain the difference between the two, when (if ever) an objective still makes sense, and give you a fill-in-the-blank summary template that works whether you are a fresher, a career changer, or a senior executive. We also show three before/after examples so you can see the difference in seconds.
